My Creepy Room
From: Story type: Ghost Location: house Source: Form Submission
I've stayed with my grandmother in her country house for a while, and she swears that the home isn't that old.
I don't believe in ghosts, as spirits of the dead anyway. But my grandmother has told me stories of seeing shadows, and lights (long since burned out) turning on and not going out.
When I'm in her house, I stay in this one room upstairs. When I was younger, it never bothered me, but lately I've felt very uncomfortable there. One side of it particularly creeps me out at night. It's nothing tangible I can describe, but just a general feeling of unrest - as if someone is over there, that I can't see, and they're watching me.
My sister has said that one night she stayed in that room and woke to someone shouting her name, very angry. I too have had this happen. But I attribute it to being on the verge of deep sleep.
Most recently, however, I had gone out for the day and my grandmother was alone in the house. Whenever I arrive at the house after a trip, I carry the same routine: I walk in, climb the stairs, put my things in the room, and walk downstairs to the living room where my grandmother is usually waiting to meet me. When I returned that afternoon, she asked me if I had forgotten something earlier. I told her no, puzzled, and asked why?
She said that a few hours ago, she had clearly heard the front door open and listened as I climbed the stairs as I always do. When she called out to see why I had returned, she got no answer. She heard my footsteps continue up and go into the room and shuffle around. After that there was nothing.
My grandmother was so convinced that she had heard me, she got up and went to the bottom of the stairway. She called for me. No answer. She climbed the stairs and knocked on my door. Nothing. She went in and the room was empty.
