The house on Kanefler is where our Mom and her bother(s) and sisters grew up. It's a ricketty looking old farm house on a way out of the way side street almost up a hill. The house had a basement, two stories, an attic and secret "cubbies" (that's what my mom calls them) that lead throught the house via between the walls.

Unknown to my Grandparents at the time of them moving in it had been used by Monks for burial rituals. There was burn marks scarring the wood flooring in the living room and den areas, eurns filled with ashes in the basement walls and a small makeshift eurn in the garage.

My mother's family is big, 6 all together plus 2 on and off foster bothers, and the house was big enough to accomidate them. But they never slept alone, soemtimes all 6 of them would even sleep together. This was because they discribed an uneasy feeling when left alone, like there was a presents and they were being watched.

My aunts and uncles and even my Mom, to this day are reluctant to talk about what went on at that place and on that street. If the name Kanefler even comes up the shoot each other worried glances, and quickly change the subject.

My mom and aunt claimed to see the ghost of their grandpa sitting at the edge of their mothers bed, after hearing footsteps going up and down the halls and stairs. Once our mom was taking a shower and listening to the radio when the electricity went out but the radio contenued to play the theme from The Exercist.

There were little doors hidden in the corners of some rooms that opened up to the walls and had little passages that wound through out the house and up to the attic. There was a place under the stairs that had a little storage space that was especially scary, so was the basment that was fill with jars of unidentified stuff and made you feel a little crazy. A year or so after our mothers family moved out the new tenants whent crazy and the man looked his wife and himeself down there and murdered her and killed himself.

The people that lived on the street were just as scary as that house. There was the crazy man who would often stare at my aunts and uncles through the windows at night or let himself in to their house, thinking it was his. Sometimes he even stalked them from the bushes. The Kaneflers themselves has a bee farm and harvested honey, there was a lady with 15 kids and an old couple with a crazy monkey that often bit people. Once a little boy drowned in the run off drainage cannal. They played in caves and abondond mines as kid, but were always in at dark and always together.

Myself and Midge have never been inside the house, but just seein it gives us that uneasy feeling that my mothers family shares, No wonder they selpt togther!
