This happened a long time ago in kindergarten.

In our class was this girl who always walked around with her imaginary best friend Ellie. She annoyed the hell out of us, always complaining when we didn't include Ellie or telling us Ellie's opinions during a discussion. The adults thought it was so cute while I thought it was a little strange.

One day, the girl was crying her eyes out. Everyone rushed to her, asking what was wrong. She kept crying and looking out at the road in front of our school. It was a while before she said that Ellie had tried crossing the street without looking both ways and was hit by a car. She kept asking us why we weren't doing anything to help her.

The adults tried calming her down, but the girl kept crying like her heart was broken, or like someone she had loved very dearly had died. After that, she never mentioned Ellie again.
