Form in the Dark
From: Sarah (hotpink007babe@hotmail.com) Story type: Ghost Location: My house in Cali Source: Form Submission
It's not so much that I've had a ghost scream at me or actually hurt me, but I can sense it. My parents can't feel anything, but the room that used to be mine in definatly haunted. The hairs on the back of my neck stand straight whenever I walk near it. Needless to say, after my "encounter," I moved into a different room.
I had a small bedroom as a child. And I always seemed to know that I wasn't the only one occupying it. I have vauge memories of sprinting up the stairs, being able to feel something evil on my heels, thinking that if I made it downstairs quickly enough, I wouldn't be hurt. I never was... well... only once. I don't know whether to blame that on my bad footing or a push from a ghostly companion. Well, one night after saying goodnight to my parents and brushing my teeth, I slid into bed. My dog plopped down beside my bed as he always did, and I was soon fast asleep. In the middle of the night, I was awoken from my peaceful slumber by.... nothing. Well, at first it seemed like nothing. After listening for a few moments, I looked down at my dog and found he was staring, supposedly, at the wall, growling very softly, the hair on his butt raised. Since I couldn't have been more than 10, I was scared by that alone. I lay awake for a long time, listening to him snarl at... nothing? I managed to drift back into a fitful doze, and when I opened my eyes again, about 40 minutes later, I heard nothing. My dog had gone back to sleep. I stared at the wall he had been growling at for a few moments, then something moved and caught my attention. It was just out of the corner of my eye, and I was very slow about turning my head to see what it was. At first I couldn't see anything, just shadows... but as my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I made out a figure. It was a head and shoulders, and they were very, very close to my bed. I sleep with my windows open, so there should have been moonlight flooding right across the room. While I was staring at the figure, the temperature in the room dropped a few degrees, and the hair on the back of my neck stood straight up. It lasted about 10 seconds, then the figure disappeared and moonlight came flooding back into the room, as though it had never left. I looked down at my dog, who was awake and staring up at me. How could that be? I hadn't made a sound and he was asleep about 30 seconds ago. I was scared enough that I had to get out of that room.
What strikes me as weird is that our house is brand new. We are the first family to ever live in it. It's been a few years since my encounter, but weird things have been happening around the house ever since. Such as I'd be laying in my parent's room watching TV and the door would start opening and closing. I still have the feeling that I'm being chased up and down the stairs, and I always end up either sprinting into the brightly lit kitchen, with my parents, or running into my room and slamming the door. The spirit, if there truely is one, has never shown evil intentions, but I can feel it. I have moved out of the room, I did about a week after my "encounter". My new room is bigger, but right next to the haunted one. I don't have any nightmares anymore, but sometimes I still do wake up in the middle of the night for no reason. If anyone can help me... it would be greatly appreciated.
