Cat Ghost

My daughter had a pet cat "Minou", which was kept at my ex-husband's apartment. When he was moving to a new apartment which did not allow cats, he explained to us that he was giving Minou to a friend who lived on a farm. He described how happy Minou would be, and my daughter did not get too upset.

About 1 week after my ex-husband moved, my daughter came to me and asked "Is Minou dead?".

"Why, Minou is living on a farm! Remember what your father told us? Why would you say such a thing?". I was surprised at the request.

"Because Minou has been in my bedroom for two days!", she replied.

She took me into her bedroom to show me, pointing to a particular bench. Unfortunately, I couldn't see anything.

"You can't look at her straight on. Look slightly to one side, and you'll see her in your peripheral vision!", my daughter instructed.

Well, I tried. I thought I saw some movement in the corner of my eye, but I couldn't be sure.

"Mom, I'm sure Minou is dead", she said matter-of-factly.

A couple of days later, I called my ex-husband and insisted he tell me the real story of Minou. The terrible truth finally emerged. He had Minou put down, as he couldn't find another owner. He confirmed that Minou was indeed dead.

Sadly, I had to tell my daughter the truth. She was not upset. "Minou is obviously not altogether dead. She will be going up to heaven soon!"

My daughter said goodbye to Minou that day, and never saw her again.
