Many of the weird occurrences at this college have taken place in St. Charles Hall, where a blocked-off fourth-floor bathroom with mysterious bloodlike stains on the sink has generated all kinds of rumors. A tragedy did occur there about thirty years ago, but many students at Carroll College, as well as a number of faculty and staff, have never heard the truth about it. Matthew Kelly ( a pseudonym ) was a student at Carroll College in the early 1960's. Well liked and fun-loving, Matt returned to the dorm late on night after partying in Helena. He had probably had too much to drink and when he was in the bathroom that is now blocked off, he somehow fell and hit his head, causing a severe cerebral hemorrhage, from which he died.

One of his friends David Miller said that after he died him and his friends would here knocking at there dorm room doors. When they would open there doors there wouldn't be anyone there. Except they would hear screaming and thumping sounds coming from the bathroom down the hall. Also Margaret Hoagland says that whenever she washes the blood stains off of the sink from where Matt fell they always reappear in the exact shape and spot. That's not the only ghost haunting Carroll though.

There was also a story about a nun in the 1930's. One night a nun jumped to her death from a window in St. Albert's Hall. The occupants of the room now say that every night at exactly the same time they hear someone walking down the hall. When ot gets to the room's door the footsteps stop. Then the handle to the door turns except it never opens. The footsteps start up again this time walking across the room to the window. Suddenly they'll stop. Every night after this happens the incident of the nun reoccurs and her can hear her screaming as she falls to her death. After the sound of the nun hitting the cement she'll walk out of the room and back down the hall.

The hall has been changed to a cafeteria now, but the workers there can still hear her walking where the hall used to be on the fourth floor. One night when the workers were locking up and everyone had left they heard footsteps upstairs. The two workers went to check on things and found no one upstairs. The footsteps started up again. When they went back they could hear the nun running towards them looking for the room that she had once jumped out of.
