Upper Pond Visit

I go to school in a small college on a mountain. The school is called Southern Vermont College and is in, understandably enough, in southern Vermont. What is interesting about the college here is that it used to be the summer home of Edward Everett. You may not be familiar with his name, but you are familiar with a couple things he has done. He created the original Coca-Cola bottle and Mason jars (if I'm not mistaken, that is).

The campus has a bit of a reputation for being haunted by at least four spirits. I could tell you a few of the stories but I don't know how many of them are true. Instead, I'll tell you what I witnessed.

There are two ponds here. The upper pond (on top of the hill) is where it is commonly known that Everett's first wife drowned. Nobody is certain if she killed herself or if someone else killed her. I don't think it matters to her; either way, she's still dead!

She is known as the Lady in White because several people have seen her in a flowing white dress. I told the stories I know to my girlfriend here at SVC. She was interested in seeing them so we trudged up the hill to the upper pond.

>From what I had heard, I knew which shore the Lady in White stuck to, so we watched from the other side (so we wouldn't scare her away). After looking for a little while, my girlfriend noticed two "shadows" on the opposite shore. She told me where to look and soon I saw them, too.

It was amazing. I could clearly see two shadowy figures. Below is a kind of synopsis of what my girlfriend and I said to each other:

"I see them! One is bigger than the other, right?"
"Right."
"The one on the left is bigger."
"Right. It looks like an adult with a child."
"Yeah. Wait! One of them moved!"
"Yeah. The bigger one bent down towards the little one."
"Yeah! Ohmigod! I'm actually seeing this!"

Well, anyway, you get the idea. From what we said to each other, we both knew that we were seeing what the other saw. Also, it might be poignant to mention that I saw the bigger one bend toward the smaller one before my girlfriend told me that's what happened. I cannot explain it away to my imagination. Sorry, skeptics.

I investigate this house every now and then because I like to think of myself as a parapsychologist (albeit an unpaid one). I find the events that occur here very fascinating and I hope to capture a ghost on infrared film very soon!

I'll keep reading the stories that wind up here and, who knows? Maybe I'll have a new one to tell everyone everntually!
