The Hallway Door

A lot of people tend to ask me how I got interested in the paranormal or should I say ghosts, spirits, etc. I've always been interested but what really got me hooked happened to me twenty years ago when my oldest son, Robbie, was just a baby.

His father took a job in a small town just outside of Prescott, Arizona, called Chino Valley. I love old homes so when I saw an ad in the local paper for a old farm house built in the late eighteen hundreds, in a rural area, no down payment, rent half the price of anything else I'd seen, we called the ad. "We'll take it!" I said.

We had my sister and a friend help us move our things in bright and early the next morning. My now ex-husband left to go start his new job and my sister and her friend went back to Phoenix. I set my sons room up first then layed him down for a nap, he was just exhausted. I found this odd as he's hyperactive. In the mean time the gas man had come out and turned on the gas, also checking and lighting the stove.

So I went to start setting up the rest of the house. Past the kitchen was a long hallway, at either end were doors to the outside. Along this hall was the master bedroom and a bathroom. As soon as I walked into the hall I noticed it was ice cold and that one of the end doors was wide open. I closed it and locked both the door lock and the chain lock it had on it. Then proceeded into the master bedroom. I was only in there a few minutes and had to leave. I've never felt so uneasy in my life, like I was scared to death, for no reason! I very quickly left the room, when I walked into the hall, I noticed the door at the end wide open again. I had locked it didn't I? I looked around and locked it again.

I ran into my sons room to check on him, he was still sound asleep. I picked him up, still very uneasy about the hallway door. So I went back into the kitchen so I could peek back into that hallway. I felt as thou I was going to faint, the door was wide open! I couldn't breath! Scared to death, I ran with my son in my arms out into the front yard. The only neighbor in the area lived across the street, who came over when he saw me. Hysterically I tried to tell him what had gone on, "POOR MAN". He went inside with me to look around know one was there, locked the door then stacked some cinder-blocks from the yard against it. I asked him if he could light the stove and he said the gas wasn't on that he would call the gas company and have the man come back out.

After he left I just could not get myself to go near that part of the house. The gas man came back out and returned on the gas, relite the stove and left. I went into the kitchen to make my son and myself something to eat. Guess what the stove wouldn't light. I looked into the hallway, the door stood wide open bricks stacked against the wall. I think I screamed, I know I ran back into the other end of the house. I just sat there holding my son crying until my husband came home.

He tried to calm me down as I told him what had gone on that day.He looked at me as if I had lost it. Then he tried to light the stove, no luck, then he went into the hallway re-locked the door, and re-stacked the bricks. After about the second time he re-locked it, he was almost as bad as me.But when the cupboard doors on the built in china cabinet started opening and shutting on their own, enough was enough! We jumped into the car to call my sister and her friend,{GET US OUT OF HERE!}.

A couple hours later we were all back there moving our stuff back to Phoenix. I was kind of relieved to see them all experience the hallway door, I wasn't going insane!

Eight years later I went back to this house. After being talked into it by some friends, they just had to see it. Well know one was living in it and the hallway door was open, so in they all went and out they all came running and screaming. One of our friends {who by the way was a realtor in the area}, said the minute he walked in he felt the worst feeling he has ever felt "I thought hmmmmmm that sounds familiar". We all ran back to the truck and it would not start. They tried everything and could not get it started. Their we were walking in the middle of the night to are friend the realtors house.

The next morning my friend went to pick up her truck, it started right away and they couldn't find a thing wrong with it. Our realtor friend checked on the house and found out know one had stayed in it for more than a week. The owner had bought the house for next to nothing and then had it moved to the property.

My experience in that house set the course of my studies. I plan on going back to that house again someday, if its still there. Only this time I'll be armed with camera's, camcorders and such to try to catch something on tape. I've changed alot since then. I now find this subject so interesting. I have wondered why some spirits show themselves, why some act so very angry? Are they just trying to reach out and contact someone, are they lost? Is that our next plain of existence. My father always said you ask to many questions. But I guess I'll find out in the end.
