Sonoma Cemetery Ghost

This really happened in a Northern California cememtary about January of 1996. It began when me and a friend had nothing to do and decided to head off to Lake Sonoma to watch the winter weekend warrior wet bikers. On the way up there, I noticed an interesting cemetary that looked like it was very old. I asked my friend if we could stop on the way back since he was driving and so on the way back, we did.

The cemetary is an old country style cemetary that sits off the main road that links 101 to Lake Sonoma after the Lake Sonoma exit. Most of the graves are on a hill and along the slope of the hill. We drove to the top of the hill where my friend parked his late model Ford Explorer. We both got out and looked around. The sun was setting over the hills and being that it was winter, the old distorted, bare oak trees cast a real spooky feeling over the grave yard.

We walked along the graves, reading them as we went along. Most of them were from the mid to late 1800's. About 3/4 of the way down the slope of the hill, my friend asked me if I ever got the feeling in grave yards that I was being watched. Of course I thought that was a silly question, after all, if I was dead I couldn't imagine spending time hanging around my gravestone. About another minute passed by when my friend said he was going to walk back up to the car and drive the car back down the hill to the entrance and wait for me there. Since I was about half the distance to the front gate anyway, I said okay, and of course, it was getting darker by the minute because the sun was already behind the mountains.

About another minute passed when I turned around to see if my friend had made it to his car yet. I was actually quite suprised to see him standing in front of his car door looking down at me since he wasn't in very good physical condition and it was a very steep hill that he had to climb to get back to his car. I didn't think he could make it back so quickly. But then, I noticed someone else walking up the hill to his car, except this was my friend, who hadn't made it to his car yet. He was where I thought he should be, about half way back up to his car huffing and puffing his way up the steep grade. I looked back at the car and no one was anywhere to be seen. I kind of got a little freaked out and quickly started to head for the bottom of the hill where he was suppose to pick me up.

About another three or four minutes passed before my friend met me at the bottom of the hill at the cemetary entrance in his Explorer. As we began up the main road to highway 101, I asked him why he was suddenly in such a hurry to leave. He explained, "do you remember when I asked you if you ever felt watched while at cemetaries?" of course, I remembered him saying that. "Well" he continued, "I had a weird sensation that someone was standing by my car looking down at us and although there was no one there, I felt really uncomfortable because my car window was open and the car keys were in the ignition."

Just then, a cold feeling went up my spine and I told him what I had seen. I can only imagine the expression on both of our faces but the expression on my friend's face was something I'll never forget!

Anyway, I still get the creeps just writing or thinking of that experience. If you know where the cemetary is and you experienced a similar situation, perhaps you could e-mail me.
