This story was told to me by my cousin during my recent visit to Greece for a vacation. My cousin's friend Helen was at home sitting on her living room couch on the second floor of her third floor house talking on the phone to her friend from school. Apparently Helen was so involved in the conversation with her friend that she did not hear her mother tell her that she and her dad were going to step out for a few hours. Helen just nodded and waved goodbye not really paying attention. So, about half an hour later her friend had to go so Helen was forced to get off the phone. No sooner had she hung up the phone than she heard the someone on the third floor ironing. Helen called out to her mother, and her mother responded, humming an unidentified tune to herself. Well Helen, being close with her mom, proceeded to tell her the gossip from school which she was talking about with her friend before she had to go. They talked back and forth for almost 20 minutes before Helen remembered that her mother had said that she was stepping out while Helen was on the phone. She sat there frozen, hoping that her parents had returned without her hearing them, but somehow she knew they hadn't. So she managed in her fear to yell out to her "mother" upstairs "mom, why are you trying to deceive me?" and then the humming, and the sound of the ironing stopped. Helen was paralyzed with fear before she managed to run out of the house to her friends house down the street. To this day she never stays home alone...
