I've been reading all these accounts and they've only served to reaffirm my belief that there truly is something out there. I've got my own stories, both mine and some that I've heard over the years from others.
*L* Which ones do I start with? OK I'll start with my own. I'll give you a little background. When I was born, my parents didn't get along and my mother refused to allow my father or any of his family to see me. With that said, my grandfather died without ever seeing his first grandchild. Apparently he was very distraught over this, (with obvious reason). My father says that this hurt him (my grandfather) so much that that is one thing he will never forgive my mother. As a child I knew NOTHING of this. Also, at the time we lived in a very old 19th century Victorian home where I experienced all kinds of minor things (eg unexplained chills, touching, things like that).
That said, I awoke one morning and saw a tall man standing in my doorway. Having just woken up, it didn't register at first. He did not look like a ghost at all. It looked like a regular man just standing there. He had his back toward me and was dressed in a brown pinstripe suit, with the jacket being long reaching just above his knee, and a Humphrey Bogart style hat on. He was hunched over, and it looked like he was lighting a cigarette. As he began to turn around I screamed and hid under the covers petrified, and I stayed there for as long as I could. When I spoke to my Mother and others that knew him, EVERYONE says I described my deceased grandfather. Just for the skeptics, FYI there was NO ONE of that description in the house at the time, this was the mid 1980's - who wore brown pinstripe, mobster style suits AND HATS at that time? In summer?
Another experience was about 2 or three years ago. I was about 16 at the time. This was in our new house, but it's still about 80 years old. It's quite peaceful, and apart from the main occurence, most things are either just strange or funny that happen. Like one night we were sitting up talking about ghostly things and the TV in the other room turned on. We didn't notice at first because the volume was low, but it grew steadily louder and louder until it was like "what the f**k is that? I don't remember leaving the TV on?". It was on full blast! Another time a friend of mine and I were debating whether ghosts exist in my kitchen. We were sitting near the shelf and a cup fell off just missing my head and into my lap! And one night I awoke to find my doorway glowing!!! Then it seemed to me somthing was coming out of it and I shit myself and pulled the covers over my head. When I looked again, it was dark and the glowing was gone. Not really "spine chilling stuff", but anyway. We were renovating my room so I was sharing a room with my grandmother. So we go to sleep. Now I've always been scared shitless of all things demonic, yet I'm always compelled to read about them. At this time, I'd just gotten over my fear and realised that if you have faith in God nothing can get to you. I think this experience reaffirmed that. So I'm sleeping and I have this dream of being in like some kind of warp, best described as when in movies they're trying to depict time travel. The dream had the most sickening feeling about it and I could hear this morbid, sinister laugh. Suddenly I realised that I was concious in my dream! Imagine being wide awake, yet in a dream! This dream was horrible and I remember CONSIOUSLY trying to open my eyes and being distressed when I couldn't, and when I couldn't the laughing got louder and louder, like it was taking pleasure in my distress. Somehow I opened my eyes but I couldn't move or talk. I can remember hearing my voice inside my head and trying to move and not being able to. Now I'm a little hazy on the next bit. I can't remember if I was told this through spoken word or that I somehow "got the message". But basically the thing that was laughing went serious and was like "you can't get away from me no matter how you try". Just then I thought "f**k you, God will help me", and I could scream again and I awoke my grandmother, but she thinks it was all just a nightmare. But I was CONSIOUS THE WHOLE TIME. I remember it just like you remember walking to the shop or something like that, I don't remember it as a dream at all. Nothing like that has ever happened again.
My grandmother had a lot of family die in or during the period of WW2. In this same Victorian house, she began having dreams of her deceased mother and brother. She was VERY distressed at the time, and this went on for a few months. She'd have dreams where they would be in the house, beckoning her to "come with them". They'd want her to leave the house, and she'd dream she was walking down the staircase with them and out the door, but she'd always stop at the porch. And she really would be at the porch because sometimes she'd awaken and find herself STANDING ON THE PORCH??? She instincively knew that if she did "go with them", it would mean death, and she felt it wasn't time. So one day in her fear and frustration she (this is a tradition) made a cake (like a peace offering) and took it to the church where she prayed and begged her mother and brother to please leave her alone. She never had another nightmare again. Back in '88, a very close family friend died. She was always in and out of hospital. In Sept. she was allowed home, since the all the medics thought she was on the mend. No one expected her to die that night. The next morning, my grandmother wakes up disturbed from a vivid dream she had. In it, this woman was at a barbecue (my granny said the surroundings were BEAUTIFUL-green grass, flowers, willow trees) having fun and obviously completely healed. My granny says "Regina! I thought you were sick!" and Regina says "Oh, no I'm fine now! This is such a wonderful place, I feel better than a teenager! You should stay here too!" But my grandmother says "no I'm needed at home". She was slightly disturbed by how vivid the dream was and got up immediately after this dream and saw that the time was 2.20am. That morning we found out Regina had died at 2.20am that morning.
Another story. I really think there is a malevolent spirit in my old primary school. The school is at least 120 years old. There's a certain part of the school you go to AND YOU CANNOT STAY THERE ALONE OR EVEN IN GROUPS OF TWO OR THREE. This feeling of dread and uncontrollable panick sweeps you, and you feel like you're going out of your mind. I've tried to bear it, and stay up there but it's LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE. As you climb the stairs it gets stronger. I thought I was crazy, no one ever talked about it. It chills me to think of it. But when I spoke up one day, (a few years later in High school) EVERYONE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE THERE. You just get this panick up there and run like mad. And it's not a creepy room. It's quite cheerful looking. There's another century old primary school in our area, which has dozens of stories, I can't even remember them all. Our area is quite rough, and most of the teenagers are what you'd call "hooligans", esp the boys. They pride themselves in being tough and mean, but dare them to walk through that school alone at night, and watch the blood drain from their faces. They would rather give their right arm they are so deathly afraid of the place. Apperently they did a seance there once and one of then (I don't want to say "possessed"), well he went beserk and needed religious help and everything. Really. Appently he started talking in tongues and his eyes grew watery and red and his mother had to call in religous instruction to help him. The boys say that if you walk through at night you get followed by the trees, ie you turn around and they're in different places and you feel like you're going to vomit. But in daylight you go back, and the trees are in the same spot. There's at least 5 or six with the same experience.
OK, last story, this one happened about a year and a half ago. I was
with two friends and we were playing card games. We got bored and one
suggested that we do this card/seance type thing. You place the aces in
a row and ask questions, whatever house you pull up is the answer.
Hearts=yes Spades=No Diamonds=Maybe Clubs=don't know/won't tell you. So
we muck around at first, but then we decide to see if it's real and ask
about this guy that died in a fire a few years back. EVERYTHING WAS SPOT
ON. We asked things we already knew, at least 20 questions, and it
answered everything right. They wanted to make an ouija board, but I
refused. End of story. If you're a skeptic, and you're not convinced -
well just keep kidding yourself!
