My Grandfather

My other entry was a story that my grandfather told many times.
He was a railroad engineer from the 1920s to the 1950s. His regular run included a section between Sheboygan and Manitowoc, WI,; many parts of that route had a clear view of Lake Michigan. A girl he knew had drowned in an area that was visible and he often looked at that spot when riding past - thinking of her fate, no doubt. One night, in the full moon, he saw what looked like a female figure standing in or on the water, pointing in the direction he was raveling. For reasons unknown to him, he stopped the train and got out. He walked ahead on the tracks and found a few hundred yards from where he stopped that the rails had come loose.
If he'd kept going, he'd have wrecked the train and who
knows, possibly been killed.
