This story was told to me by mother. It took place about 30 to 35 years ago. It goes something like this.

I had an uncle by the name of Reymundo (Raymond in English) My mom, and her family lived in a very rural area of Monterey , and very close to some old abandoned mines. My uncle had a girlfriend that lived about a mile or so away. He was very much in love, and happily walked the distance back and forth to his love's home, every other night alone. The couple was so in love, that soon plans of marriage were discussed. My uncle talked to his love's father (her mom was deceased) and gained his approval. As soon as plans were under way for the wedding, my uncle was no longer allowed to walk home alone.

Every night that he walked home he was followed by a spirit. A woman, with dirt and blood on her body and clothes and the saddest, pleading eyes that my uncle had ever seen. The first time he saw her, she called out his name, he thought that she was a neighbor or traveler that had met up with some bad luck. That notion was quickly discarded when he approached her and realized that he could see beyond her to the swaying bushes behind her, and that she was suspended above the ground. I'm sure that he had never ran so fast in his life, and run he did, all the way home.

This continued to happen every time that he walked home from seeing his girlfriend. And each time the spirit became bolder in her pursuit. The second time she came to the fence of the house, the third to the middle of the yard, the fourth right up to window to give my uncle a true fright, because he had gotten into the habit of looking out the window to see where she was at.

Life soon became a torment for my uncle. And his visits to his girlfriend ,became less frequent and far in between. My uncle had quite a dilemma on his hands. He could not mention the true reasons for not visiting his love as often. Naturally, the girl-friend became worried, then distrustful and then angry.

The courtship soon ended. My uncle noticed that as soon as his relationship ended, so did the visitations from the woman. My uncle later found out that his father had an affair, with his love's mother, and that they were actually half-brother and sister. He also found that the girlfriends, mother had died (some sort of freak accident) in one of the abandoned caves along the path that my uncle took home.

Fact or Fiction? I really cannot say, this story has been handed down from generation to generation in my family, and the only person who can verify that (my uncle reymundo) has passed away.

Hope you enjoy, sorry its so long.
