Fishing at Night

This is really weird to talk about since I have not said anything to anyone about this in three years. But a friend of mine and I were having a good afternoon of fishing at a pond a few towns over. The sun began to set and we decided to stay a while after all we were having a good day and did not want to quit just yet. About an hour or so after the sun had set my friend said do you hear anything ? I replied no. Why? He said That's my point.

Seeing as how not five minutes before the shore line was alive with the sound of frogs crickets and various other creatures of the night I became a tad unnerved seeing is how I have been an outdoorsman for over 23 years and even in the presence of a bear have never had the woods fall dead silent. I calmly suggested that we call it a day and leave. He agreed and we began to paddle the canoe back toward the car when I heard something on the shore directly across from us.

I quietly told my companion to stop paddling whatever it was kept up with us until we stopped . Then it stopped. This happened four or five times before I got really on edge. What the hell is it I said. Can you see anything? Straining my eyes into the woods I saw something moving but could not see it clearly. Then out of the darkness I saw two eyes peering at us from the woods. Red in color but not glowing. I almost screamed.

The canoe began to shake my friend who was in the front was shaking the entire canoe. We sat there in bewilderment and terror for what seemed to be hours. Then I said we are out of here. As quickly as we could we paddled back to the truck. the thing was keeping up us but not making a lot of noise doing it. When we had back at the truck the dirt road we had parked was alive with noises on one side and completely silent on the pond side. What ever it was had stopped a few yards from the car.

As quickly as we could we tied the canoe down and left before this thing got brave and made an appearance. There is a house down the road and the people that live there keep their dog out side all of the time and he always comes out and barks whether you are coming or going. The dog was in his house shaking like a leaf.

My friend and I did not speak of the events until a few days later and we both saw the same thing . The next day a co worker brought a article from a local news paper in for me that said the same night as our experience a strange animal killed a couple of cows not 1 mile away from where we were. A local animal control officer and several hunters could not tell what kind of animal it was as the tracks were unidentifiable. It also appears that this happens in this area every year but only once. And has been going for as long as anyone can remember.

If anyone out there can tell me what it was I would greatly appreciate it.
