I am not entirely sure if this is a true ghost story. It happened to me late one night a month ago or so, and I would be tempted to have called it a dream if it weren't for my two cats.

A little background info, I am a very sound sleeper and usually sleep through everything. I have to use three alarm clocks to get me up on time in the mornings!

I woke up, wide awake and very alert at 1:30am. I have a very clear memory of the sound that woke me up. It is impossible to accurately describe except to say that it was the weirdest noise I have ever heard in my life; a kind of combination of squishy but squeaky at the same time. I have described the squishy part to friends as almost like someone had taken one of those huge car wash sponges full of water and dropped it on my kitchen floor. But I have never been able to explain how the squeaky part is incorporated with the squish.

Now, I have woken myself up from dreams before, thinking I had heard someone say something and I was about to attribute this to the same thing, but I looked at the window next to my bed and saw *both* of my cats sitting in the window next to my bed and staring at the doorway of the bedroom. If only one had been looking in the direction of the noise, I probably would have still discounted it as being my imagination. But with both of them, I knew they had heard it too. I couldn't see the doorway b/c my bedside lamp blocks my view of the door and I was not about to get up and check out the noise. I rationalized that everything must be okay b/c both cats were very calm, one even got off the window, walked across the bed and curled up on the corner of the bed closest to the door. So I turned over to go back to sleep and was not really alarmed.

Before I fell back asleep I heard another noise, this one sounded exactly like a notebook falling on the floor. Since I have a drawing table that things are always sliding off of, (the surface is at a slight angle) I didn't think anything of it. But the next morning there was nothing on the floor that could have made that noise and nothing in the kitchen where the first odd noise had come from.

I haven't heard anything odd before or since this incident so I don't really know what to think about it.
