All the staff at the Hotel know about our resident ghost. Just across the road sits our Manor ballroom. The ballroom is heritage listed & protected (i.e. it cannot be pulled down and the owners must keep it in an historically correct condition within reason) due to it's age (over 100 yrs). It used to belong to a family that lived in the are. I have no idea what their names were - sorry.

Anyway, the ghost of the last male resident still haunts the building. It's a known fact that none of the hotel staff go there alone if they can possibly help it - particularly not at night. It's not unknown for things to suddenly be in a different place when no one has moved them or even for the distinguished gentleman himself to appear to those he desires.

These occurrences are not confined to the evening though. Several months ago one of the sales girls, Donna, had to show a prospective client the ballroom as he was thinking of holding a function there and wanted to view the premises. As they were about to go up the stairs to see the top floor the client turned to Donna and asked quite simply, "Who is that man sitting in the armchair over there?"

Donna looked at the chair (it's a large leather one sitting on the landing halfway up the stairs) and saw no one. She told the client this. He insisted there was someone sitting there and thought Donna was just trying to play a joke on him. She insisted just a vehemently that she saw no one there. Obviously the client could see our friend but Donna couldn't.

Take it or leave it as you wish but in my opinion Donna had no reason to lie about it.
