My story is about the house I lived in as a teenager in a small mid-western town of Maquoketa Iowa., It was a large framed two-story home built in 1908. It was originally located downtown but had been moved to its present location. My parents bought the house as a fixer upper. We actually ownec the house for several months but had not moved in.

The first experience happened about two or three months after we moved in. It was simply the feeling that you were not alone in a room, just a basic creepy feeling. Later, audio phenomenon occured to every member of my family. I would hear my mother calling out my name when no one was there. This happened alot...my Mom would hear me or my Dad when we wern't home.

Sometimes you could hear footsteps walking away form you as you were walking into a room or you'd hear them going up and down the stairs.

On another occasion my parents and I were watching television in the living room my brother (he was 7 or 8 at the time) was in bed upstairs. As we watched a loud explosion like sound erupted from direectly above us. My mother thought that perhaps my brother had fallen out of bed...my dad however relized that the sound was much too loud to be a seven year old boy falling out of bed. My mother and I rushed upstairs to find him sound asleep. Then we realized something else...the noise had come directly above us....the room above the living room was my room not my brothers.

Shortly after that incident I would waken in the middle of the night with my mattress shaking . It seemed like someone was holding one corner of the mattress and shiking it up and down violently. This happened one when my cousin was sleeping over and since then she has refused to be in the house at night.

Friends of mine have reporteedseeing lights go on and off when no-one was home. Or of shadowy figures peering from behind the curtains of my bedroom window again when there was absolutely no-one home. Our cat would somtimes follow something with its eyes moving from one room to the next and sometimes he would meow at the attic door (which was located in the upstairs bathroom). My mother once found my brother (appartnly sleepwalking) with his fingers underneath the door frame shaking it...speaking in a unintelligible voice.

It wasn't a frightening house It sometimes just made you wonder...what the hell is going on?
