Going Home

The date was the 15th of December, 1994. I was laying in my bed, reading a newspaper. As children, my sister Jennifer & I would sing ourselves to sleep (we shared a bed).
For whatever reason, I got this urge to start singing. I sang the song "Dirty Work" by Steely Dan. I was very impressed out how clear & beautiful my voice sounded.
This particular song, I had previously associated with the death of my mom & dad's dog, SAM. I loved Sammie so much!! My mom had let him out the front door to get their paper in the morning & he kept running up the street. I had told her not to do that any more, but she didn't listen. On my father's birthday, October 9th, 1992, Samby was hit by a car and died. I was torn apart...I loved him so much!!!!!
I thought it very odd that my voice sounded so rich. I eventually went to sleep only to wake up to a very sad realization the next day.
My brother-in-law, Jon, came into town (said that his flight was rerouted to St. Louis because of bad weather & of course I believed him.)
When he came to my house, he told me the truth...my father had passed away from a heart attack the day before.
Now, for whatever significance that it may have, my dad (Poppa "D") loved Glen Miller of the Big Band Era & he had passed away on the same day that was the 50th anniversary of the downing of Glen Miller's airplane.
My father & I were never really close, but I truly believe that he was trying to tell me goodbye in his own way. He was very musically inclined and I think that was his way of relating to me.
This submission really doesn't seem to fit the aforementioned criteria, but I feel that it's appropriate to the subject.
