Tales from a Haunted TX Apartment II
From: Dianne (ravyncat@yahoo.com) Story type: Ghost Location: Austin, Texas Source: Form Submission
I have posted a story here about my haunted apartment, and this is a sort of follow up. (My earlier story is in Oct 2002--True Tales From a Haunted Texas Apartment) It appears that the "ghosties" that I share my house with aren't thrilled that I'm telling people about them.
I sent my story in sometime in late September. Soon afterwards a nasty "wet-dog" odor began to show up in my room. We do not, and never have had, a dog.
This is an odor which has plagued our apartment, but has never been in MY room before.
The living room of our apartment reeked of this smell when we first moved in. (We joked that the previous residents must have had a 'pet troll' to make it so stinky.)After MUCH cleaning the smell went away.
Well, during the first week of October, it came back. Our living room carpet and our two couches started to reek! We used up two bottles of Febreeze getting rid of the smell. My sister recently told me that the same "wet dog odor" has always been in her walk-in closet. Some days it is worse than others. About the same time it appeared in my room and the living room, it came back in her closet too--worse than ever.
OK. So maybe we just have a funky carpet, but the smell seems odd to me.
More weird things also happened in late September-early October.
My Nana passed away last July. I inherited some dishes that had been hers. These are heavy white dishes with blue and green spots and "X"'s on them. A very strange, very "Fifties" design. There aren't many pieces left. About 8 saucers, 1 plate, and a couple of casserole dishes. The neatest thing was the groovy "spaceship" looking lid to one of these dishes. These dishes are old and fragile, and we don't use them. They are stored in the back of our cabinet with the dishes we use stacked in front of them.
One night about 11PM I heard a loud crash in the kitchen. I didn't get up because I heard my sister dealing with it.
The next day she told me what had broken because it really puzzled her. The lid to my casserole dish had somehow fallen out of the closed cabinet door and shattered on the counter top--which is only a foot below the cabinet. The lid shattered in lots of very tiny pieces--little balls of ceramics sharpness! (Read about a light cover that did the same thing in my previous story.) This was a heavy lid. somehow it moved up over the plates in front of it, didn't knock any of them out, opened the door of the cabinet, and smashed! I'm not blaming this one on a cat, because three of them were sleeping on my bed when this occurred, and our other cat was on my sister's bed! I was really upset about this, because I have happy memories of my Nana using those dishes! I went into my room and told the ghost to "stop breaking my stuff!". Hopefully it will listen.
My things have been broken in the past, and I always blamed it on my cats. Now I'm not sure it was them--I'll post those stories at a later date.
Now my closet and one corner of my room feel "scary". I feel like someone is standing there. Guess I got too cocky with my last post. Sometimes insense and candles don't solve everything....
More stories at a later date!
