The Haunted Light of Clarkton

This is in regards to the "haunted light of Clarkton, NC". I have seen this light many, many times.

When I was a teenager, we would usually go to the little crossroads of Elkton, NC at least once a month, proceeding to the railroad tracks. These tracks were in the middle of nowhere and it was very dark. You could park your car on the tracks and most of the time if you looked back towards Clarkton you could usually see "the Buie light" as it was referred to. I have seen this light as big as a basketball, and as small as a baseball. I have seen it as high as the trees and down in the canals that were on each side of the tracks. I have seen it swing from side to side, and fade in and out. I was never afraid of this light, it just sort of gave me a funny, eerie feeling when watching it.

You could also see this same light in Clarkton on the tracks looking back towards Elkton. There used to be an old dirt road that ran down beside the railroad tracks in Clarkton, and you could park your car there and get out and walk to the tracks. I was there one night with two other friends. We started walking down the track and it was very dark. We had matches and started striking them and sort of throwing them up in the air. From one second to the next, that light APPEARED in front of me! It was something I will never forget. My friends and I started running back towards the car. I was screaming and trying to get back in the car.

I never wanted to go back to the dirt road in Clarkton again.

That dirt road in Clarkton is closed now, but you can still go to Elkton and see the light. Every so often, I try to get my husband to drive down there when we are coming back home from Wilmington, NC or from the beach. One of these nights, we are going to go back to Elkton and see if the "Buie Light" is still down there.
