My story begins when I was 15 years old. I was walking home from the store with my boyfriend. I had walked this route a million times before. We decided to take the short cut which took us through the church yard and a short wooded area to get to my house. On the road, before getting to the church yard we had walked past a man standing on the side of the road. I remember looking right at him and I felt uncomfortable. He sort of glared at us and didn't look like a pleasant person.

When we were in the church yard, before we arrived to the wooded area that led to my house, we decided to sit and rest and just hang out. We sat there for about 15 minutes. We then got up to head home before it got dark and as we began walking toward the woods I felt what I can only describe at hands on my shoulders trying to stop me. I turned to look but no one was there so I began walking again. Then I heard as clear as day "No do not go this way, take the road home". I turned to my boyfriend and asked him "why" and he just looked at me funny and said "I didn't say anything". I had a uneasy feeling at this point and being 15 and not wanting to appear weird in front of my boyfriend I ignored it and didn't say anything.

As we approached the tree line of the woods I saw the man we had seen on the street walking from the woods towards us. I thought this was strange because we didn't see him pass us in the church yard but I know it was the same person. Again that voice came to me telling me to turn around and get back to the road. It wasn't my voice and it wasn't my boyfriend's. It was a really strange sensation like it was coming from outside of me but from with in me at the same time. Before I could say anything he was right in front of us and it was to late. He was a predator and he attacked us. I will spare you most of the horrid details of this part of my experience, however I must share some to continue with my story.

My boyfriend tried to protect me and fight back but this man was big and had a weapon. Looking back I should have ran as he told me to but I couldn't leave him there to fight alone. He was beaten up very badly with most of the damage being to his face and he finally was knocked unconscious leaving me alone to face this madman alone. He then turned his full wrath on me. Eventually I lost consciousness as well. Right before that point I knew I was going to die and it was more of a feeling of disbelief then fear. I remember seeing a very bright light with my grandfather standing in it. I never saw my grandfather in person because he passed before I was born but I knew it was him. He reached out a hand to me and I walked into his arms and just as I stepped into them I could see the white light was not really pure light but huge wings. They were not coming from him they were just there and they wrapped around us. I remember trying to look back at my body and a voice saying "don't look back, its almost over". I thought this meant my life was over but I later found out I was raped while I was unconscious. I wanted to stay there because it was really nice but they said I couldn't and had to return.

Sometime after this person left us for dead my boyfriend regained consciousness and tried to make it through the woods to get help. His face and eyes were swelled shut and covered in blood. It was dark and he could not see. He told me later he felt hands on his shoulders guiding him. He said they felt so real he panicked and tried to run because he thought the man was coming back to kill him and he ended up falling down. He laid there weak and scared feeling like there was no way he could get up and make it when he felt gentle arms lift him up to his feet and begin to guide him. He tried to tell this person what happened and that I needed help and he heard him say "we know, we are with her, you must get to her father" He remembered this person helping him all the way to my front porch.

To make a long story short, he made it to my father and I was found severely injured but alive. My boyfriend mentioned the person in the woods but my father was on the porch and saw him come out of the woods alone. It changed my life in ways you would not expect. Really as horrible as my story is I see it as a gift. I am never alone, no one is, no matter what your religious beliefs are. Angels are among us, all you have to do is learn listen to them.
