Skeptical but What Is It?

This is my first time writting a paranormal story on line. I was hesisitant to b/c I think this makes this situation more real and not something I can brush off.

Starting almost 7 yrs ago, my family (husband, son, and myself) moved into a new home (approx 50 yrs old). In the first week of being there, I'd hear a strange popping/squeeking noise by the stairs leading down to the rec room. The best way I can describe it is like a something bursting out of something under pressure (like a champage cork from a bottle) and making a surprised whooping noise after the POP! It was a loud unpredictable noise that would cause me to jump, and occured at night only. Because some pipes run above these stairs I just dismissed this as air in the pipes although our move in day was the same day the old tennants moved out so the water was never shut off and the weather was too warm for pipes to freeze. Strangley, the noise has never once occured again after the first week.

Thoughout our first month in the house, my son (who was 2 at the time) voiced various complaints of not wanting to be in his room alone b/c his bed shook. Another night he said he woke up to see his books slithering across the floor like a snake into his closet. The next morning, after he told me the story, I opened up his closet and low and behold there were about 10 books stacked neatly in the back of his closet on the floor. He wasn't frightened of the book incident, and I think he found the bed shaking more annoying than scarey b/c he was only 2 and did not understand why something like that would be scarey. It also gives me reason to believe him b/c why whould he lie? It's not like he's watching scarey movies or even knows what ghosts are.

I would lay with him at night sometimes, esp after he c/o the bed shaking, and would feel a bit of a vibration, but that's it. I thought that maybe it was just vibrating from the vent blowing below the bed? However, like the popping noise, this too stopped soon after the first few months of living there.

As time went on various odd things would occur. I'd hear footsteps (which I shrugged off as the normal house settling noises), I'd have very realisic dreams of seeing objects moving in the house, to find them not in their proper spots the next day but elsewhere (ie dishes, clothing, books, even food). I'd get the sense of something being there and watching me in the house, but again just dissmissed this all as coincidence, my son, or just my imagination.

One night i'll never forget as long as I live....I was just settling down into bed to go to sleep and my hubby was with me. My son was in bed (at this point he was about 6/7 yrs) but had a habit of getting up multiple times in the night to climb into bed with us or go to the washroom. We still had a baby monitor at this time b/c he is diabetic and he would call to us if he felt a low blood sugar in the night or we'd hear him wimpering or crying if he felt unwell. Just as i was settling in to bed, and I mean just settling in (like getting the covers over me and turning out the light) I thought I heard him rustling around in his room through the baby monitor and got ready for him to knock on our door to come in. His door to his room often sticks to the frame and makes a disticnt scraping noise when it's opened too. However, as i was listening out to my horror I heard this strange singing just outside our bedroom door, and the singing moving down the hallway to the bathroom. My mind told me "it's my son, he's up and going pee" but then I still heard him though the baby monitor in his room rustling around with the blankets in his sleep. I sat frozen for what felt like a good 10/20 min just paniced b/c i'd never experienced anything like that before. I said to hubby "did you hear that?" but b/c he was already drifting into sleep he didn't hear a thing and called me crazy. B/c I was so scared I made him get up with me and check out the house. That morning I asked my son if he got up in the night and he said "no" expecting me to be proud of a full nights rest for him.

I never really felt frightened of the goings on in my house as I kept excusing them as my own imagination, as most things were occurances I could explain. (execpt for the singing incident I heard). Occasionally I'd hear an odd "HI!" which sounded like a small child's happy hello but i'd excuse that as "mommy ears" as i'd be in the habit of listening out for my son in the house, long after he started school...it was just habit and my mind was tricking me into hearing a kid in the house.

A few years ago i went to a psychic fair in town. I explained the above (and more) to her and she laughed and told me I had a ghost and how to get rid of the ghost. Again I was skeptical as i'm even still on the fence in regards to believing in paranormal stuff, but listened to what she had said and decided to give her suggestions a try. One thing she said that creeped me out was that in addition to having one in the house, I have a multitude of them on the property of my house that are spirits that have followed me from work (i'm a nurse). She said they wern't bad, but more curious of me as I may have been there at their time of dying, tending to them, or they may just like my aura or energy I give off. Ironically, since starting my new shift at the nursing home, when i'd return home I often felt the urge to run inside b/c I felt like something was watching and wanting to touch me...just creepy feelings like that..I never told the psychic this so I was pretty creeped out when she mentioned this.

Anyhoo, the night I came home from the reading I was on my way up the stairs to my front door when it just suddenly opened up by itself. No word of a lie. I stood there frozen for a minute and called out from the doorway to see if my son or hubby had seen me pull in and opened up the door and walked away? But both were in the rec room downstairs, hubby snoozing and my son so involved with his cartoons he didnt' even hear me calling him. I passed this off as maybe the wind, although how wind could open up a locked door is beyond me....but that's what I said. Wind. Although my imaginination told me it was the ghost laughing at me b/c I went to a psychic, it was it's way of taunting me.

None the less, the next day I lit white candles and thanked the spirit for letting my family live at the house, but now it was time for it to go to the light. I lit white candles in every room and let them burn till they were gone. I kept positive thoughts, played happy music and meditated.

Strangly enough, since then, there has been nothing.

Well up untill a few months ago. Again i've been hearing oddities around the house. Banging noises, cold drafts, and a sense of being watched. Power goes out all the time, but before it goes out I get the typically horror movie style flickering and stereos going on in other rooms before the power ultimatley goes out. Last month i was dozing off in bed and felt something reach out and touch my shoulder and rub my shoulder blade. Scared the bejezus out of me and for weeks I sat thinking of something non paranormal that could have caused me to have feel that feeling.

As long as this story is, there is so much more to tell but I won't as i've covered the main things. I hope if anyone has any anwers or has experinced something like this too, you message me. And as i've said, i'm still skeptical as to what this really could be...........
