My mom says that everyone has at least one terrifying experience in their life that scars them forever. I believe that experience for me happened when i was 6 years old. Sorry if I can't remember some exact details since I long have made myself forget it until something had triggered a memory of it not too long ago.
It happened while we were on vacation to Florida and we made a pit stop in a motel situated on a beach in Alabama. We decided to take a break and spend the night there since we had about a day longer till we got to our destination. My memory of the whole day while we were there is a bit fuzzy, but I do remember playing with my brother on the steps that went up to our room. When it go to be dark outside, my dad said he was going go to go visit someone he knew from around the area. He ended up not coming back until morning. After he left, it was just me, my brother, and my mom still at the motel. The place was pretty empty so I think we were all by ourselves. Since the day was done and there was nothing left to do, we decided to go to sleep.
Our motel room was fairly large and it had two beds in it. My mom and my brother slept in the bed on the right of the one I slept alone in. It was about eleven o' clock and my brother and mother had already fallen asleep, but I couldn't seem to doze off. I was feeling rather bothered because there was this real creepy ambiance. Everything was real still. I was already a believer of the paranormal since my mom used to tell me about a lot of experiences she had as a child. While being like this, I always had a suspicion of places I wasn't familiar with of being haunted. This was what was bothering me.
I sat in bed staring up at the ceiling for a long time. I was sleepy earlier, but the entire feeling had seemed to just wear off. I began to notice that the whole time i was laying there, everything was just eerily quiet. I couldn't hear a single stir coming from inside, outside, or anywhere. Absolute Silence. I suddenly felt a soft tremble grow in the bed. It felt like it was lightly vibrating. I thought at first that it was just the feeling of laying there for so long, but then the trembling began to grow real violent. I just stayed laying there stunned in confusion. After it kept vibrating for a while, I noticed something else. The room still remained completley quiet, not even the bed's thrashing about made any noise. The bed's shaking began to get so violent that the entire bed itself started to move around on the floor. I couldn't understand what was going on. As i lied in it, staring up the whole time still, I saw something start to develop in the corner of the ceiling. It was like this pure concentration of darkness that specially illuminated out of the rest of the darkness. It felt evil.
The darkness then started to take into this long, oval shape. It looked like one of those black, hairy caterpillars. When it took shape, it then started to crawl down the wall towards me and the vibrating bed. I was scared senseless, seeing this long, black creature crawl down the wall, like it was trying to get me. I leaped out of the bed and ran across the room to the other bed where my brother and my mom were sleeping. I jumped in between them and pulled the covers over my head. I was so unbelievably scared, I didn't know what to think. I lied underneath the blankets for about fifteen minutes when i gathered the courage to peek out. I glanced over to my bed that was still moving around and I witnessed what peeked the horror of the whole experience. The blankets on my bed just flew off and the entire bed itself slid across the room, all the way to the wall. The black caterpillar things, now there was more then one, then crawled onto it. The bed then began to succumb to this super black, concentration of darkness. I darted back underneath the covers and began to cry from the fright. I stayed underneath the covers the whole night and when it was morning, the bed was back where it had been before with the blankets back on.
I'm older now (17), but this experience screwed with my head as child. It was absolutely frightening. I tried to make sense of things, things that would prove it didn't happen. It couldn't have been a dream because i remember feeling the sweat and warmth on my face from being so nervous and scared. It also puzzled me that the whole time, not a single sound was made, even when I ran across the room. Also, I never woke up my brother or my mom. The experience was just so horrifying to me as a child that, like i said, I even made myself forget it. The only reason i remembered it again was because I was reading a ghost story similar to that experience that made me remember it. Everyone has at least one horrifying experience, whether it is paranormal or just a problem they faced in life, that changes them for the rest of their life. This was mine.
