Knocking Sounds When Falling Asleep

Many times in my apartment here at Shadowlawn drive when I am drifting back into sleep or am drifting in and out of consciousness I hear knocking sounds on the walls or doors. It sometimes startles and wakes me completely and I look around to see if anyone or anything is there making these noises and I can't find the source of the noise.

Has anybody ever heard of this phenomenon?? It is always when I am drifting in or out of consciousness. It really seems like someone is doing it to try and wake me. It's like an urgent knock. Please feel free to respond to this story with any information that may be helpful to me to figure out what is causing this and how I can deal with it.
