I believe most paranormal investigators know what a hotbed of activity St. Augustine, Florida is. I can attest to that firsthand. When I was 15, my family moved from Illinois to St. Augustine. The house my parents bought was built in the 1930’s and I believe the land which the house sat on was haunted. We had an obnoxious spirit that loved to wake us in the middle of the night. He especially loved picking on my sister and myself. During the night, I would feel someone sit on my bed and then call my name. When it first happened , I must admit it was a bit disconcerting. I soon became used to it and would tell him to go away. He was also a bit of a prankster. He loved hiding keys, jewelry and rearranging things in the kitchen. I believe I saw him once out of the corner of my eye but whether it was my mind playing tricks I really can’t be sure. My sister, however, had the pleasure of seeing him face to face. She was home alone watching TV when she slightly turned toward my bedroom door and there he was standing ,staring at her. She only saw him for a few seconds but she believes he was a Spanish soldier….not out of the realm of possibility living in St. Augustine. I took to calling him Senor after this incident.
Senor became more silent as my sister and I grew older and activity completely stopped after we left home. Ten years ago my parents sold the house and let’s just say our friendly ghost was not happy. The new owner called my parents complaining that guests staying in my old bedroom had an unusual incident happen to them. It seems the man was startled awake by some one hitting him over the head. Much to his surprise no one was in the room. He had a nice lump on his head in the morning to prove some one attacked him. Senor was never violent with us so my only guess is that he was unhappy about the change in the house. We never heard another report from the new owners.
I often think about my flirtatious ghost and hope he is at peace. He sure made my teenage years interesting.
