Balls of Light

On March 2 2007 around 10 pm I was letting my dogs out and I saw two glittering balls of light about 4 feet above the ground in the trees behind my house.They were mesmerizing and would appear to hover at times before they slowly rose above the tree line and disppeared.I did manage to break away from my awestruck trance and get a picture of one before it disappeared.Although the picture does document what I saw it doesn't show the true brilliance.Any idea of what these could have been?
