Red Mist

When I was very young, I saw and felt things that other people didn't. This particular incident occured when I was around 6 or 7 years old. It was summer time, and late in the day. My brother and sister and I were running amuck in the front yard of our country home as twilight descended and our mother called us to come in.

Well, my siblings and I dutifully marched toward the house, but only my brother and sister were able to go inside. I stood frozen, unable to climb the porch steps. As my mother stood in the doorway waiting for me, I could see over her shoulder into the front room. From my angle, I should have seen only the upper back corner of the room; instead, I saw a hateful red mist condensing into humunoid form. I could not take another step, nor could I breathe.

My mother thought I was having a fit of some kind, and came across the porch and down the steps. She lifted me like a baby; and as we crossed the threshold, I was certain we were going to die. The man-shaped red mist was now laughing at my fear, and promising to do great harm to my family. Oh! The terror! I fainted, and awoke the next morning to perfect normalcy.

I have never seen, nor felt the evil of the red mist again, but twenty years later I am still afraid of what comes with the twilight.
