Working with Ghosts
From: Dave (guthrieboy@msn.com) Story type: Ghost Location: Old Girl's Town Source: Form Submission
I always love a good ghost story and have found throughout my life
that for some reason they love to have me tell their stories because
they're attracted to me. The place used to work security was the old
Girl's Town and has now been changed into a medium security juvie pen
to adapt to the changing times.
There have been many times while working the evening shift and
during the witching hours that we've had some very interesting
experiences and conversations out there. I'll only mention one of them
at a time for brevity purposes.
One of my favorite places was the gym. It seemed that it was pretty
active when nobody was around because everyone that went in there had
something to tell about how it made them feel or something that had
happened. While on the evening shift I would make my rounds doing
facility lockup and when it came to the gym would run the top run
checking all of the doors then come down and turn out the lights. This
left the gym completely black except for two small lights at the top
where the classrooms were located so I'd make my way across the
basketball court and use my cigarette lighter in order to see and get
through the back door which was a good hundred feet or so away from the
breaker box. When I would go to light my lighter I always felt as if I
were going to see a face directly in front of me staring back into
mine. I can't explain it, but I can even describe him from his
beautiful dark hair to his teenage features. It wasn't particularly
eerie; it was just there.
One particular evening a female officer and I were doing lockup
together and I mentioned to her that she had a tail. She looked at me
funny, but there was a young girl following her and that would never
leave the top floor of the building. Of course, she laughed at the
prospect, but one evening she called me on the phone and asked me to go
to the gym. She had seen this young girl in one of the cameras and
stared at her for over ten minutes until a phone rang and distracted
her. When she looked back she was gone.
On another instance I was working the graveyard shift and we decided
to break all of the rules since recorders weren't allowed on the
facility and placed a tape recorder in the building where we could
catch every sound in the place. We heard a variety of noises from
tennis shoes on the basketball court to people walking around inside.
We even heard a ball being thrown from the basketball court up onto the
wire that fenced in the top floor as if they were bounding it off of
the wall and on one throw it landed on the metal roofing that covered
the top floor and boxed it in just like the thrower had overthrown his
target.
As spooky as it was I sometimes think of the old place and how much
fun we had. While I was never physically harmed or assaulted, some of
the staff claimed that they weren't so lucky.
