I've always believed in ghosts and Angels. I've believed in them long before I knew I did. It is hard not to when you are so aware of the presence of things you can not explain. They are just things that are. Fortunately, I do not see anything. I don't believe that my mind would be able to bare it. I just feel things and I try to respect whatever my instincts tell me. There is one memory though, that I cherish deeply. When I was a kid living in East Lansing, my family and I lived in a small student's apartment. I used to sleep in a bunker bed, on top, while my younger sister would sleep at the bottom bed. I used to be very scared of the dark and I felt that there were other presences in the room. I don't recall why I wouldn't call out for my parents, but sometimes acknowledging that you are scared is even more frightening. So I would just lye there, frozen, and hope that I would fall asleep.

My parents have taught us to pray to our Guardian Angels before we went to sleep. Sometimes, when the fear was almost unbearable, I would concentrate on my Guardian Angel. I would repeat to myself, my little Angel please protect me. Little by little, I would feel my body go numb. First my feet, then my legs, until my whole body was totally relaxed and I felt as if I wasn't there anymore. All the while I had the feeling and that a tall, young man, with dark hair and a sword was standing next to my bed, fighting whatever was threatening my sleep. This was an interesting picture, since we were raised with images of blond female figures as the perfect Guardian Angel figure. Still today, I am gratefully thankful for that strong presence that made my child nights more peaceful and I wish I still had the same connection.
