The Man on the Desk

This story takes place in the year 2002. I was a sophomore in college and living in a dorm room nicknamed "the Crow's nest" because it was the attic area of the building, up in the rafters. Other than the walk up 6 flights of stairs, which can be very tedious with a large load of books, the room was pretty nice and definitely spacious. It was a really tough semester for me and because of that, I couldn't really sleep at night. I had two roommates, so I felt bad if I stayed up with a light or my computer screen on. Anyway, this gave me many sleepless nights just lying there in the dark. On many of these nights, I would see this dark shadowy man sitting on my desk, just watching me. At first it didn't really bother me, in fact, I was always so tired that I never really connected in my mind that it was real. Once I realized that everything I saw wasn't just a figment of my imagination, that there was this shadowy figure sitting on my desk watching me silently while I slept, it began to bother me. There have been many rumors of deaths in the dorms and considering this dorm room was on the fifth floor, I wouldn't doubt there had been some kind of occurance here. I only stayed there half the year before I moved. I never felt scared by this man, just uncomfortable.
